Different Kind of Gay is a podcast made by Goran (in Melbourne, originally from Serbia) and Mitchell (in Sydney, originally from a tiny place no one would ever know). We’re two best friends who met one another at a time when we felt very alone and wondering: where were the other gay men like us?
After finding one another, we started discussing questions like this all the time.
“Why don’t we make a documentary about gay loneliness?” Goran asked one day while we were having lunch.
“Sure,” Mitchell agreed, knowing nothing about film or what it would involve.
As you can see, the documentary didn’t quite happen (yet!) but a podcast did. Back in the first lockdown of 2020, we retreated into our built-in wardrobes and started recording our most heartfelt stories.
Right from the start, it’s been just the two of us; no producer, no backer, no marketing budget. We remain completely independent, raw and honest.
Lover of film, theatre and politics (wearing the black t-shirt). He grew up watching Indiana Jones and likes listening to the sounds of Iceland.
Fond of quoting his favourite writers and singers in answer to any question you ask him (wearing the white t-shirt). His favourite movie is Return to Oz, but he can’t decide who he loves more: the Gump or Tik-Tok.
